A local resident is in custody after a Florida grand jury indictment Wednesday charging him with second-degree murder in a 2001 cold-case disappearance.

Dion Kaseta, 50, is being held in the Hamilton County Jail after his indictment in Polk County, Fla., in connection with the disappearance of his girlfriend on Dec. 8, 2001, in Deerfield Beach, according to the Lakeland Ledger.

The disappearance of Kimberly Bumbalough Mimmovich, 37 at the time, came after the couple had been dating for about four months, police said.

Kaseta, long considered the only suspect in the case, had told authorities he dropped her off at the beach, returned and searched but could not find her. He then filed a missing person’s report with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
