Off to a healthy start

The biggest victory for Signal Mountain coach Bill Price in Friday’s Platinum Financial Funding Jamboree was not the number of points they scored in their victory over Red Bank, but the number of injuries they sustained – or didn’t sustain.

Coming out injury-free in the process, the Eagles had a pair of scoring drives and went on to defeat the Lions 13-0 in the second game of the jamboree at Finley Stadium – which was delayed for almost an hour due to lightning.

The Eagles – who came into the game fired up for the battle against the nearby school – were led by quarterback Hogan Whitmire, threw for 120 yards and had a 76-yard touchdown to Will Queen. The Eagle defense shut down Red Bank in the red zone, forcing the Lions into a field-goal attempt that was missed.

“I thought the line was terrific for us tonight,” Whitmire said. “We were finally able to go full-go, full speed on the field.”
