Don’t blame mayor for city’s actions

Do not ask me to sign a recall petition for Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield. He is receiving unwarranted criticism for wastewater tax, tax increase and annexation of areas around Chattanooga. The wastewater tax is a federal mandate too long ignored by prior administrations. It must be paid or face a fine.

City and county residents have not been well served by the City Council and County Commission in ignoring the freezing of property rates for senior residents below a certain income level. If the council had done its job, there would be much less concern about the property tax increase.

Objections to the annexation proposal approved several years ago by various government units are that the only services residents would receive are garbage collection and fire protection. I do not agree!

County residents receive city services without paying for them. They help to create potholes and the need for street repair and paving. If they use any city tax-supported facility, they are not paying for any cost. When an area starts receiving 24/7 fire protection, the cost of homeowners insurance decreases significantly. This would be a big offset to a tax increase.
