This time of year, when the weather is hot, there often come stories similar to the one a few days ago in La Vergne, Tenn., a city outside Nashville.
An 18-month-old girl died in a hot car. It was not immediately clear whether the girl had been left in the vehicle or if she had returned to it somehow after being removed. The mother said she had thought the girl was asleep in the house.
With cars closed and the sun beating down, it doesn’t take long for a heat tragedy to occur. In this case, it was reported the child was in the car for perhaps three hours! Her temperature rose to 106.9 degrees.
What a tragedy! Of course, no such thing was expected. But it is now too late to ask how things might have been different.
Many tragedies can be avoided just by thinking ahead and acting carefully.
