Corker says Chattanooga ‘talk of the state’ for growth

U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said here today that Chattanooga is “the talk of the state” due to its business growth.

“We’ve got hope,” he said, prior to the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce annual meeting.

But the senator said the story is different in some rural counties in Tennessee.

Corker, who as Chattanooga’s mayor helped lay the groundwork for bringing Volkswagen to Enterprise South industrial park, said some rural counties don’t have needed infrastructure, or a big employer may be leaving.

Chamber CEO Tom Edd Wilson said that in the last year the business group helped 18 companies announce 1,198 new jobs.

“This is a big win for the economy,” he said.
