It is getting tougher by the day to believe the claims by the Obama administration that the United States is experiencing a true economic recovery.
Unemployment is stuck near 10 percent. Equally troubling, in just one week recently, a total of 484,000 Americans sought unemployment benefits for the first time. That is nearly one and a half times the entire population of Hamilton County! And a week later, the number was even worse: 500,000 new claims for jobless benefits!
That does not include the millions more Americans who have already had to resort to jobless benefits because they cannot find work.
And on top of that, millions need full-time jobs but can get only part-time employment.
The president has been in office going on two years now and has had overwhelming Democrat majorities in Congress enact his liberal economic agenda of bailouts, “stimulus,” heavy borrowing and so forth. Yet joblessness has continued to climb – contrary to what he predicted would happen if Congress enacted his agenda.
It is little wonder that the American people cannot see the “recovery” that the president continues to assure us is all around. When “recovery” walks like recession and talks like recession, it is probably still a recession.
