Happy Way, happy people

In a world with more than enough challenges, obstacles and problems, several hundred happy, enthusiastic Chattanoogans gathered yesterday at the Chattanooga Convention Center to “do something” to achieve thousands of solutions for our people.

It was the kickoff meeting for this year’s United Way campaign, for the benefit of all the people of our community. How all?

Hundreds of United Way volunteers will enjoy making it easy for thousands of our givers to share generously through the United Way, to solve or alleviate hundreds of thousands of real human problems – here, in our community.

Our United Way gifts don’t go for operational “overhead.” The necessary campaign expenses are covered by earnings from an endowment fund, established long ago by farsighted benefactors.

As many thousands of people in our area make generous United Way gifts, all the money will go to varied agencies qualified to address difficult human problems – things we couldn’t solve alone.

Dr. Bill Stacy, widely known as the former head of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and former head of The Baylor School, has generously volunteered to lead hundreds of United Way campaign volunteers, to help not only “the down and out” but also “the up and coming.” The United Way benefits all of us.

There are all kinds of challenging needs. So how does “everybody” win?

The volunteer solicitors enjoy guiding your gifts toward worthy services.

The givers benefit by having confidence that their gifts will be of constructive value.

And, of course, the direct beneficiaries will rejoice because they will receive really needed assistance.

You may join the “happiness team” by giving – the United Way!

This year’s “base” campaign goal is $11.5 million. But if we all pitch in, we hope to reach the “stretch goal” of $11.8 million – so we all can spread more happiness around.
