Lorenzo Scott homered to right field to lead off Friday night’s game, and the Jacksonville Suns went on to an 8-4 victory over Chattanooga at AT&T Field.
The loss eliminated the Lookouts, who are 29-32 with nine games remaining, from the Southern League’s North Division second-half race. Tennessee defeated Birmingham 5-2 Friday night to improve to 39-22, but the Lookouts still have slim hopes of making the playoffs as a wild card.
Scott’s homer opened the gates for a four-run first inning. Paul Gran and Vinny Rotino followed with singles, and then Matt Dominguez and Brandon Tripp reached courtesy of Lookouts throwing errors.
The second inning opened with Scott up again, and he homered again to right to put the Suns up 5-0.
Chattanooga got on the board in the bottom of the second when Kyle Russell’s sacrifice fly to center scored Jerry Sands, but Jacksonville answered with two runs in the third to increase their lead to 7-1. Scott doubled to right in the third to score Kevin Mattison.
Lookouts starting pitcher Jesus Castillo allowed seven runs on 11 hits and two walks in four innings.
The Lookouts play tonight at 6:15 and Sunday at 2:15, which are the last scheduled games at AT&T this season. Alberto Bastardo (6-4, 4.48 ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher tonight for Chattanooga.
