Developer Joe Sliger is going to renovate his property at the corner of M.L. King Boulevard and Houston Street, gutting it and starting over in hopes a possible future tenant will take notice.
It’s the former location of Big Ben’s BBQ, closed in 2009, Sliger said.
The downstairs has suffered from neglect, he said, and the upstairs was disfigured with temporary plywood dividers, among which 10 to 12 tenants lived.
The goal is to transform the 8,000-square-foot structure into “a great little store,” with a new storefront, roof and exterior windows.
Sliger said if the right tenant comes along, he’d build to their liking, even opening up the middle to create one large space if necessary.
