Zoo Atlanta's baby panda makes his media debut

ATLANTA - Veterinarians at Atlanta's zoo say the new giant panda cub weighs in at just over two pounds and is healthy and growing fast.

The male cub was born Nov. 3 and made his media debut during his weekly checkup Thursday. This is the third cub for Zoo Atlanta's Lun Lun (loon loon). She was inseminated earlier this year with the sperm of her partner, Yang Yang.

The cub won't be named until he is 100 days old, following Chinese tradition. He won't be placed in public viewing areas at the zoo until he can walk, usually around 4 months old.

Until then, panda fans can watch the cub's growth on the zoo's online panda cam.

Zoo Atlanta has had Lun Lun and Yang Yang for a decade.
