A belated security upgrade

The recent, alarming public release of confidential diplomatic messages between the United States and other countries has caused our State Department to slash the high number of government employees who have access to those types of messages.

That’s obviously appropriate, but the question is, why did so many low-level employees have access to the messages in the first place? Authorities suspect that an Army private downloaded the information onto a simple compact disc! He is being held on charges related to an earlier leak.

Considering the seriousness of the release of the confidential messages, there should be firm insistence on a top-to-bottom review of security protocols at the State Department.
