2:00 DRILL: Suspensions and searches

Haynesworth suspended

Former University of Tennessee star and ex-Titans standout Albert Haynesworth was suspended Tuesday without pay by the Washington Redskins. Haynesworth will not play for the remainder of the regular season.

The Redskins said the decision was for “conduct detrimental to the club,” and seems to be the final straw on a strained relationship between Haynesworth and coach Mike Shanahan.

Some open jobs drawing big names

At least one outlet is now saying that Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp is getting some interest for the open University of Miami head coaching job.

ESPN has reported that Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen is among the leaders and UConn’s Randy Edsall, Temple’s Al Golden, Houston’s Kevin Sumlin and Texas Tech’s Tommy Tuberville could be possibilities for the job.

Vandy search narrows

The Tennessean reported that Vanderbilt’s search to replace Robbie Caldwell has moved into the second stage.

Among the names reported to be contacted by the Commodores are: Tulsa coach Todd Graham, Nebraska offensive coordinator Shawn Watson, Maryland offensive coordinator James Franklin, Michigan State offensive coordinator Don Treadwell and Wisconsin defensive coordinator Dave Doeren.

The paper also reported that Greg Roman, Stanford’s assistant head coach, had interviewed in person Friday, and the school has been in contact with Air Force coach Troy Calhoun
