Principal putting Howard on track
Recently there have been many comments about Howard High School, but little has been correct. Howard’s principal, Dr. Paul Smith, is solving problems known to few. Those include his students, faculty and those who have taken time to inquire.
Howard High faces many problems not seen in other area schools. Howard has a battleground adjacent to its domain.
Dr. Smith has his students but seven and a half hours a day. Forget most of Monday, he must prepare them for Tuesday. You see, the street all but destroyed his previous week’s work. What he is left with is 30 hours to redefine education, to discipline, to instill self-respect and love. The street has those same minds 138 hours to offer drugs, good times, sex, gang companionship, party times and money.
Dr. Smith cannot create miracles quickly, but he has done a monumental job. Yes, there are a few who will disrupt and cause problems, but please do not let that happen at Howard High School, which is on the road to greatness. And I challenge anyone to deny that.
