The Justice Department on Wednesday recognized a local assistant U.S. attorney for his work prosecuting former Hamilton County Sheriff Billy Long.
Gary S. Humble was one of 159 honored for superior performance as an assistant United States attorney at the 27th annual Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys Director’s Awards Ceremony, according to a department news release.
“These award recipients have been honored for their service and dedication to our country, as well as to their local communities,” Attorney General Eric Holder said in the release.
Humble prosecuted Long in 2008 on federal drug conspiracy, firearms, money laundering and extortion charges. Long was convicted, removed from office and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
