2:00 DRILL: Legends, a legend in decline and a legendary decline

Whcih group is called “SEC owns us”

The AP moved an interesting little snippet earlier today. Check it out:

“When the Big Ten plays its first conference championship game next season, it’ll be the Leaders division against the Legends division.

The conference, expanding to 12 teams in all sports and adding divisions and a championship game in football starting next season, on Monday also unveiled a new logo and 18 football awards, each named after two standout Big Ten performers.

“The Legends, not too hard in that we have 215 College Football Hall of Fame members, we have 15 Heisman Trophy winners,” commissioner Jim Delany said in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press. “We thought it made perfect sense to recognize the iconic and the legendary through the naming of the division in that regard. … We’ve had plenty of leaders in the conference, that’s for sure, but the emphasis here is to recognize the mission of using intercollegiate athletics and higher education to build future leaders.”

With Nebraska becoming the conference’s 12th team next year, the conference created new divisions that it introduced in September. Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin will be in the Leaders Division, with Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Northwestern in the Legends Division.”

That’s flat out re-Gosh Dog-diculous. That’s almost as bad as the ACC division, which are of course Coastal and Atlantic and are so confusing that I dare you to tell me which division Maryland, Wake Forest or N.C. State are in. Thought so.

We’ll he play?

Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre said he would not have played in a game Sunday before a weather and snow event that caused the Vikings-Giants (tonight, 7:20 p.m., regional TV coverage) game to be delayed 30 hours.

Now, according to reports, Favre is doubtful for tonight’s game, which has been moved to Detroit after the roof of the Metrodome collapsed under the weight of almost 2 feet of snow.

Favre has started a NFL-record 297 consecutive games. The 41-year-old quarterback has battled various injuries this season and has a sprained SC joint in his throwing shoulder.

More money, more problems

ESPN’s Chris Low is reporting that Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has declined Vandy’s lucrative offer to become the Commodores head coach.

Malzahn figures to get a hefty raise from the Tigers, who have been one of the nation’s top offenses on their way to a spot in the BCS national championship game.

Now Vandy, which ponied up a reported $3 million package to try to lure Malzahn, is reportedly looking at Maryland offensive coordinator James Franklin, according to Low.

Interesting times my friends.
