Durham gets big invite

ATHENS, Ga. — The Liberty Bowl against Central Florida on New Year’s Eve will not be the final college football game for Georgia receiver Kris Durham after all.

The 6-foot-5, 211-pound senior from Calhoun has been invited to play in the Texas vs. The Nation all-star game Feb. 5 in San Antonio. Durham missed the 2009 season with a torn labrum in his left shoulder but bounced back this year to amass 29 catches for 612 yards and three touchdowns.

His 21.1-yard average per reception leads the team.

“To get recognition like that is something I’m extremely proud of,” Durham said Wednesday. “It shows that hard work coming off an injury pays off.”

Former Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton was invited to the Texas vs. The Nation contest last year. Former Volunteers and Dallas Cowboys linebacker Bill Bates will coach the Texas team, while former Atlanta Falcons coach Jerry Glanville will head the Nation team.
