The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded in Norway last week – but the honoree couldn’t be there.
You probably don’t know his name. It’s Chinese – Liu Xiaobo.
You remember that the Nobel Prize is given in Oslo, Norway, annually in memory of the Swedish inventor of dynamite, Alfred Nobel.
The reason the honoree was absent was that he is in jail – in Communist China.
Liu Xiaobo was serving an 11-year sentence. What had he done? He had urged sweeping changes in the oppressive Chinese Communist system. But dissent is not allowed there.
