We can’t just forget bin Laden

We are somewhat conflicted between a strong desire to capture and bring to justice terrorist Osama bin Laden and a wish that we could just forget him. But he has eluded capture so far and keeps reminding us of his evil.

As bin Laden apparently is holed up somewhere in a border area of Pakistan near Afghanistan and has been unreachable by American and other international forces, he repeatedly issues statements that remind us of his enmity toward America, and indeed toward all of Western civilization.

It is ironic that bin Laden’s latest public statement did not focus on “holy war” against Western civilization, but expressed concern about “global warming.”

We had never thought of bin Laden as an “environmentalist.” But now he blames the United States, and the West in general, for everything from droughts to hurricanes.

While there are more pressing matters that American troops in Afghanistan and Iraq have to deal with these days, it certainly would be good if they could bring bin Laden to real justice.
