Cornerback Chaz Moore arrived at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for his official visit last Thursday. By Friday afternoon, as the snow began to fall, it looked like the senior at Whitehaven High School in Memphis might have to spend the weekend in town.
“I was actually hoping to stay an extra day because I enjoyed it so much,” Moore said Monday.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Moore, rated a two-star prospect by Rivals.com, liked it so much he committed to UTC. The Mocs have 14 commitments heading into Wednesday’s national signing day.
“I came in with my options open, and when I came in I loved the city, the environment, the coaching staff is magnificent and the players made me feel like I was at home,” said Moore, who also had been talking with Memphis and Southern Miss.
Moore had 45 tackles and nine interceptions last season for Whitehaven, which went 10-3. He averaged nearly 30 yards per interception return and 19.4 yards per punt return. In the first round of the Class 6A playoffs, Moore returned a fumble 70 yards for a touchdown in Whitehaven’s 28-7 upset of top-seeded Germantown.
He is the third straight Rivals.com two-star player to commit to UTC, joining Red Bank running back Keon Williams and Father Ryan kicker Nick Pollard.
