Over the last 24 hours, nearly 2 inches of rain has hit the Tennessee Valley area causing damage to Interstate 24 and minor flooding in low-lying areas.
National Weather Service meteorologist Tim Troutman, based in Morristown, says there may be light snow tonight, especially in higher elevations such as Signal Mountain and Lookout Mountain.
He expected snow to accumulate to no more than 1 inch in the area and 2 inches in elevations above 1,000 feet.
Temperatures should remain above freezing until Saturday night, when they are predicted to drop into the upper 20 degree range, he said.
Any remaining moisture could freeze Saturday night and remain so until Sunday morning, Mr. Troutman said.
The weather looks to warm back up into the 40s through Sunday and Monday, but another storm system is headed toward the region by Tuesday, when the area could see another wintry mix of snow, rain and low temperatures through Wednesday.
