DALTON, Ga. – Dalton High School head football coach Adam Winegarden resigned Monday morning, athletic director Ronnie McClurg confirmed.
Winegarden, who succeeded McClurg as head coach in 2008, compiled a 14-7 record in two seasons, taking the Catamounts to the first round of the playoffs this season. He was recently a finalist for the Perry (Ga.) High School coaching position but withdrew from consideration before the final decision was made.
McClurg said the athletic department was behind Winegarden 100 percent.
“I tried and tried to talk him out of it,” McClurg said. “I think he’s a great coach and will have a great future. He had the full support of the administration and we hate to see him leave. He’s doing what he feels he has to do, and we will support him in that decision.”
