Black Ink deadline nears

Poets and spoken-word artists who wish to participate in the upcoming Black Ink poetry contest must register by Monday. The theme of this fourth annual Black History Month salute is “Remembering the Past With Poetry From the Future.”

The contest is sponsored by the Chattanooga Hamilton County NAACP and Rhyme N Chatt poetry organization.

Works must be original and free of vulgarity or derogatory content.

Participants are required to read their works aloud at the contest, set for 12:30-2:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at Rock Point Books, 401 Broad St.

Contestants will interact with the judges and audience to elaborate on their motivations.

Registration is free. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in two age divisions: adults (18 and older) and youth (17 and younger).

Poetry may be mailed to the NAACP, Attention: Poetry Contest, P.O. Box 3226, Chattanooga, TN 37404 or e-mailed to chattanooganaacp@comcast.net.
