Think what you may about “global warming” — that it’s caused by man’s burning of fossil fuels, or that it’s part of a natural cycle of environmental factors over which man has little control, or that it’s not happening at all.
But wherever you come down on that burning or not-so-burning issue, there was a funny irony in Washington recently.
Federal officials somberly announced the Obama administration’s proposal to create a brand new agency to study global warming. The Associated Press reports that one high-ranking official said during the official announcement, “Climate change is real; it’s happening now.”
There was just one glitch: The proposal for the new agency had to be announced by conference call. The original plan was to hold an in-person news conference, but record snowfall in Washington had closed most federal offices.
The inconvenient snowstorm also canceled a Senate hearing on climate change.
