Chattanooga fire investigators have released the names of two children killed in a Monday afternoon apartment fire.
Seven-month-old Olivia Bennett and 3-year-old Michael White died in a 6215 Bonny Oaks Drive apartment fire reported at 2:40 p.m. Monday, according to a fire department release.
Engine companies arrived on the scene to find the mother, Alfredda Bennett, outside the burning apartment, said Capt. Terri D. Whiteside, public information officer with the fire department.
Firefighters entered the building for search and rescue, she said.
Firefighter Joshua Burchard found the children in an upstairs bedroom and carried Olivia to emergency personnel while firefighter Darin Honeycutt carried Michael out of the burning building, Capt. Whiteside said.
Olivia was pronounced dead at the scene and Michael was pronounced dead at T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital, the captain said.
The cause of death and the fire are still under investigation, she said.
