Different ‘tenure’ possible?

It was a terribly tragic and shocking event at the University of Alabama at Huntsville last week when a woman professor, Amy Bishop, was alleged to have shot to death three fellow faculty members and wounded three others.

Why?

There has been conjecture that the professor was greatly upset because she had been denied “tenure” in her teaching job.

Although the job security of tenure is greatly prized by college faculty members, denial of tenure certainly does not justify any violent response.

The accused gunwoman did have a previous incident of violence in her life. In 1986, she had killed her 18-year-old brother with a shotgun at their Braintree, Mass., home, reportedly accidentally.
