Chattanooga: Man thrown from car after crash

A man ejected from his vehicle during a three-car-crash yesterday is in serious condition at Erlanger hospital.

Authorities are still investigating whether the initial accident happened while two drivers were drag racing, said Chattanooga Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.

No charges have yet been filed, she said, but the investigation is still ongoing.

Just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, 20-year-old Frank Lamacchia’s vehicle was struck by another vehicle traveling in the 900 block of Ashland Terrace, she said. As Mr. Lamacchia attempted to pull onto Ashland Terrace, he was hit and the impact threw him from the vehicle, she said.

The driver of the second vehicle, 19-year-old Corde Reynolds, was also injured in the accident, Sgt. Weary said. He and his passenger were taken to Erlanger, where both were treated and released for minor injuries, she said.

A third vehicle driven by William Furmon also was involved in the accident after the initial impact. Mr. Furmon tried to avoid the first two vehicles and subsequently hit the curb of the southbound lanes and a garbage can at 3609 Forrest Highland Drive, Sgt. Weary said.

Afterwards, Mr. Furmon left the scene, she said.
