Frustration growing as fire talks continue

RINGGOLD, Ga. – Catoosa County Commission Chairman Keith Greene had a short response Tuesday night when asked if county officials would address a more-than-six-months-old request for more information on consolidating the Fort Oglethorpe city and Catoosa County fire departments.

“We plan on speaking about it in the near future,” Mr. Greene said. “We don’t have a time frame, but something should be coming soon.”

Several Post Volunteer Fire Department board members and Fort Oglethorpe officials were at the Catoosa Commission meeting. They said they’d been told the county would have answers on how it could take over the city’s three fire stations that now are run mainly through the Post department.

They said they were disappointed by Mr. Greene’s response.

“We’re just getting really frustrated,” Post Chairman Robbie Tester said. ” We feel like the fire department is in a tennis match with the city and the county.”
