How would dogs treat owners?

As I sat here writing this, it is about 30 degrees outside and I can hear many dogs barking and it is well after 10 p.m. If this is not a form of cruelty to animals I don’t know what is! I say you should treat our supposed pet the way you would want to be treated yourself!

I say do away with chains now; buy a leash and take your animal for a walk when needed!

If the situation was reversed, I sure would hate to see how dogs would treat some of their owners!

Yes, I have owned many dogs and I can assure you none were chained up!

Nation no better with ‘stimulus’

Today marks the first anniversary of President Obama’s “stimulus” bill. We now have a monument that should forever remind us of the failed policy of redistributing wealth and the truth that only a very limited government is effective.

In a statement dated Feb. 17, 2009, the White House proclaimed, “Many experts believe unemployment could reach double digits if no action is taken. In light of this historic economic weakness, President Obama is signing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, a nationwide effort to create jobs and transform our economy to compete in the 21st century.”

What’s been “recovered”? Over 16 million Americans are out of work with “real unemployment” exceeding 17 percent. Small businesses have seen no relief from “Stimulus/Recovery” funding. Instead, deficit spending for government projects has placed our economy in danger.

I propose an immediate “Stimulus” package utilizing the unspent $500 billion: Immediately eliminate capital gains taxes, the death tax, and the alternative minimum tax. Small businesses and those who will invest capital will do what they do best, create jobs.

The federal government must live within its budget and its constitutional bounds.

Work together to solve problems

“Accentuate the Positive, Eliminate the Negative.” We all know of this song title, but unfortunately, it has been more or less forgotten.

Turn on the TV news programs or read the newspapers and it is mostly bad news about some sort of violence. If I were a cartoonist, I would take a half page in the newspaper to show a picture of the devil gripping the world in a crushing effect. That would be telling it like it is today and every day until this seemingly uncontrollable violence ceases.

The question is when will there be peace on earth and goodwill toward men? A good beginning would be if Democrats and Republicans could see their way clear to get along instead of fighting each other. They need to work harder to solve the problems that affect the population of Americans who elected them to serve in a professional manner.

We all hope that the president and Congress will try to find a solution to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Is there any hope that these wars will end in victory remains an unanswered question. Pray for peace.
