Local architects and engineers have been sitting on their cans for the past few months, gearing up for the annual Canstruction event to fight hunger, said organizer Kelly Fitzgerald.
The Chattanooga chapter of the American Institute of Architects will bring the international event to Chattanooga on Saturday at Warehouse Row. The display of exhibits made of food products will be followed by the UnCanventional Ball to benefit the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.
“This is the eighth year we have hosted Canstruction in Chattanooga, and it is a tradition we plan to keep,” said Brian Clarke, president of the Chattanooga chapter of AIA. “This event brings the community together, spotlights hunger issues and showcases the talent of our design community.”
The community is invited to view the construction of the sculptures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Warehouse Row. These sculptures will be built by teams of design firms and students from Hamilton County middle schools.
