Chattanooga: Mayor continues consolidation push

Mayor Ron Littlefield said today that he still plans to push consolidation of city and county services, hopefully transforming the area into metropolitan government.

During a lunch with the Southeast Tennessee Political Action Committee, Mr. Littlefield said he spent part of the week visiting Columbus, Ga., where metropolitan government has been in place for 40 years. He met with several city leaders who helped get government consolidated, he said.

“They looked me square in the eye and said they wouldn’t go back to the way it was,” Mr. Littlefield said.
