Spay-Ghetti dinner on National Spay Day

Carrabba’s Italian Grill will provide the appropriate pasta dishes for the Spay-Ghetti No Meatballs dinner and silent auction Tuesday. The fundraiser for Wally’s Friends is being held on National Spay Day, an effort to stop pet overpopulation.

Advance ticket sales are required for the dinner, which will be prepared on-site at Lindsay Street Hall, 901 Lindsay St., compliments of Miguel Morales. Dinner will include a wine and beer selection and coffee bar.

Festivities will last from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person. All proceeds benefit Wally’s Friends, a nonprofit organization that provides spay and neuter surgeries for dogs and cats for low-income residents.

For tickets, call 877-9966 or e-mail wfsncoffice@comcast.net. For information, visit www.spaydayusa.org.

MEANWHILE AT MCKAMEY

McKamey Animal Care and Adoption Center, 4500 N. Access Road, will celebrate National Spay Day with the following promotions.

* Essay contest: McKamey will award one free spay or neuter to a pet nominated by a child. Kids can e-mail Amy Nelson at amy@mckameyanimalcenter.org explaining why their pet should be spayed or neutered (include name, mailing address and phone number). Chosen e-mails will be posted on the center’s Web site, and the winner will be chosen Tuesday.

* Online photo contest: Enter a digital photo of your pet in the Humane Society of the United States’ online photo contest, or vote for a photo already posted. Voters can designate McKamey as a charity of choice. Thirty-six winners will be chosen.

* Surgery discounts: The McKamey Center offers spay and neuter for stray and feral cats for $25. A $50 refundable deposit is required to rent a trap from the center. Contact Amy Osborne at feralcat@mckameyanimalcenter.org to schedule an appointment.

* Marathon: A portion of the registration fee for the Scenic City Half Marathon and 5K race on Feb. 27 can be designated to one of eight charities, including McKamey. Find out more at www.active.com/donate/mckameyadoption.
