Lady Patriots roll into final

Despite having owned its district each of the past three seasons, the one loss in that time continues to drive the Arts & Sciences girls’ basketball team.

The Lady Patriots haven’t beaten a District 5-A opponent by fewer than 25 points this season, but the memory of an upset loss in the 2008 district tournament semifinals was again motivation enough to maintain focus Saturday.

CSAS dominated Boyd-Buchanan from start to finish, claiming an 87-37 victory to move into the title game.

“We talk about that one loss all the time, especially this time of year,” CSAS coach Clay Martin said, referring to a narrow loss to Lookout Valley in 2008, just one week after the Lady Patriots beat the Lady Jackets by 40. “We learned in that game not to ever overlook anybody again.”

The Lady Patriots’ district win streak is now at 29, and much of that can be attributed to the balanced scoring by seniors Alexis Anderson, Kayla Kelly and Chariah Gordon, who all have surpassed 1,000 points for their careers.
