Tobacco, and endless problems

The story goes that the peculiar idea of setting tobacco on fire and sucking the smoke into human throats, noses and lungs is something that early European explorers learned from American Indians, who grew tobacco and smoked it in pipes.

Cigars and cigarettes followed.

What a peculiar thing smoking is! How could it become a habit? Shouldn’t the first few puffs of inhaled smoke be enough to discourage anyone from choosing to continue to smoke?

Unfortunately, it hasn’t.

Instead, the habit of using tobacco has spread all over the world. It has created huge businesses in growing, processing and selling tobacco products.
