Coming in March

The Greatest Show on Earth

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus will present a new production when it stops at McKenzie Arena March 11-14. Illuscination, featuring David DaVinci, is a fantasy-filled world that incorporates eye-popping illusions, mind-blowing transformations and sleights of hand. His assistants include a flock of 10 rare birds. Providing the traditional magic of the Greatest Show on Earth are lions, elephants and horses, along with a contingent of clowns.

‘Hubble 3D’ at Imax

Moviegoers will journey through distant galaxies on March 19 when “Hubble 3D” blasts off exclusively at Imax theaters nationwide, including the Tennessee Aquarium’s Imax 3D Theater. Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, the film chronicles the efforts of seven astronauts aboard the space shuttle Atlantis to repair the Hubble space telescope, which has changed the way we view the universe.

A Night To Remember

A Night To Remember will be a family affair this year, with 10-time Grammy winner Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds headlining the concert at Chattanooga Convention Center and Kevon Edmonds, an R&B star in his own right, opening for his younger brother. A Night To Remember has raised more than $4 million for scholarships and intervention and cultural enrichment programs for youth in its 22 years.

Fiddling convention

The Chattanooga Old Fiddlers’ Association, a group in existence since 1925, will revive the Great Southern Old-Time Fiddlers Convention, last held here in 2006. Scheduled March 20 at Lindsay Street Hall, the event will feature a performance by the Roan Mountain Hilltoppers, an Appalachian string band, as well as fiddle, banjo, string band and dance contests.

Iconic comedy

The Second City, the Chicago-based improv comedy troupe that can count John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Tina Fey, Bonnie Hunt and Stephen Colbert among its alumni, will stop March 19 in Athens, Tenn., as part of its 50th anniversary tour. The performance, “The Best Scenes From the Last 50 Years,” is part of the Athens Area Council for the Arts’ Big Time/Small Town Performance Series at Athens Junior High School.
