It was a gig he did from 1989 to 1994. He also hosted “Totally Pauly.”Pauly’s ParentsFather Sammy was a comedian who often opened for Elvis Presley on tour.Mother Mitzi owned The Comedy Store on Sunset Strip in Hollywood.
Pauly Shore has been in the comedy business his whole life.
Both of his parents were active in the business. His father, Sammy, worked as a comedian, and his mother, Mitzi, owned a comedy club. He began his own stand-up career at 17, but it is through television and movies that he is best known.
Stand-up is a big part of his career, he said, and he will do two shows Sunday at the Comedy Catch.
“I’ve always done stand-up,” he said. “People know me from the movies, so they are sometimes surprised when they see me, but it’s not new.”
Shore’s film career includes starring roles in “Encino Man,” “Son-in-Law,” “Jury Duty” and “Bio-Dome.” His television specials include “Pauly Shore and Friends” on Showtime and “Pauly Shore’s America.”
He’s developed, or is developing, several TV shows and a couple of specials for the Internet, and he wrote, produced and directed a new feature film called “Adopted.” Due in May, it’s a satirical look at the celebrity adoption phenomenon.
He said in a telephone interview that different projects allow him to approach comedy in different ways and with different levels of control.
“When you do something like for the Internet, guess who has final say. The audience. They tell you whether it’s funny or not.”
The 42-year-old comic said his career has been more about learning the craft than looking for the next new gimmick.
“I have not tried anything (gimmick-wise),” he said. “You are constantly developing. … I’m better now than I was a year ago, and better then than I was the year before that.”
