Blacks warned on Alzheimer’s

The local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will hold a workshop on Sunday, March 6, geared to spreading awareness in the black community about Alzheimer’s disease.

The workshop is funded through a grant from the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability to provide training on Alzheimer’s to black residents of the state.

“African-Americans are at double the risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease,” said Amy French, program coordinator for the Alzheimer’s Association.

“Our goal is to provide education and training to help families and communities develop the skills and resources needed to reduce those risk factors and better manage this disease,” she said.

The workshop, called “Alzheimer’s Disease in the African-American Community and the Church’s Response,” will be held at Mount Canaan Baptist Church at 2800 N. Chamberlain Ave. The event is free to the public and will be held from 10 a.m. to noon with lunch provided.

To make a reservation, call 423-622-7263. For more information about Alzheimer’s disease call 423-265-3600 or visit www.alz.org.

Accounting firm joins health group

Chattanooga-based Henderson Hutcherson & McCullough has been accepted as the first Chattanooga member of the National CPA Heath Care Advisors Association.

The group is a nationwide association of CPA firms that provide specialized accounting, tax and consulting services to health care practitioners. Membership in HCAA requires that firms demonstrate proficiency in health care consulting, according to a news release.

“Like our firm, other HCAA members know the health care industry, and belonging to HCAA enables us to pool our knowledge and resources so that we can provide the best services and solutions for our clients,” said Libba Estep, senior manager of health care services at Henderson Hutcherson & McCullough.
