UT students, faculty diverted from Chile

KNOXVILLE – The University of Tennessee at Knoxville says all students and faculty on a school trip to Chile are fine and accounted for after an 8.8-magnitude earthquake.

Karen Collins, a spokeswoman for the university, said in a release Saturday that three faculty members from the MBA program had arrived in Santiago and 67 students and four other faculty members were en route when the earthquake hit.

Collins said the students and faculty members were on three different planes, all of which were diverted to other cities. They are on their way back to Knoxville.

She said the three faculty members were in their hotel in Central City at the time and felt the earthquake, but are fine.
