‘Explorations in Steel’

Julie Clark started out as a farrier shoeing horses and now creates metal flowers, animals, tables and wall-hangings.

An exhibit of her most recent work goes on display at In-Town Gallery Monday. Highlighted in the show are the Asian-inspierd sculptural wall-hangings that have a simplicity and minimal quality.

Ms. Clark feels that her non-traditional career is a result of her childhood and upbringing during which she was nurtured creatively. Raised on a farm with three older brothers, she also had the freedom to learn and explore the use of tools that many young girls never have.

Her sculptures illustrate her unique perspective for beauty and function that often includes a refreshing sense of visual humor.

“Explorations in Steel” continues through March 31. A reception will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

In-Town Gallery, 26 Frazier Ave., is open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Call 267-9214.
