NASHVILLE — Phillip Fulmer’s desk was black and shaped like a giant T. It sat on a platform, about a foot above the office floor, and was as imposing as the man peering down from it.
LaMarcus Coker sat in front of that desk two years ago. The coach was about to kick him off the Tennessee football team.
Coker knew he had failed his fourth drug test, all for marijuana. He smoked it the week before, knowing if he failed one more test, he’d be gone. But he lit up anyway.
It was 3:44 p.m., Nov. 2, 2007. It was the end of Coker’s Tennessee career.
