Chattanooga: Dragging-death victim identified

Police have identified the woman who died Wednesday evening after been dragged behind her boyfriend's truck for nearly a mile along Cummings Highway.

Marie Oliver, 27, of Florida, died in the incident, said police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.

Ms. Oliver was found lifeless about 10 p.m. Wednesday, lying in the 3200 block of Cummings Highway, police said.

She and her boyfriend, John Thomas White, 36, were involved in an argument at Critter's Bar, located at 2800 Cummings Highway. When he left the bar and got into his truck, Ms. Oliver grabbed onto the vehicle's tailgate as Mr. White drove away.

Mr. White has been charged with criminal homicide, police said.

Ms. Oliver's 18 month-old-child has been placed in temporary custody pending contact with next of kin, police said.
