A showdown appears to be very near in the United States Congress as to whether the American people are about to be victimized by a trillion-dollar socialized medical revolution.
Two bad bills have emerged from the Senate and House of Representatives, with the only big questions seeming to be whether the Senate can maintain the 60 votes needed there, whether the House version will prevail, and what bad compromises may develop.
But both bills threaten major changes and major costs. Some of the ill effects might not be evident immediately, but there will be huge new costs, regulations, pressures on doctors, hospitals, prescription costs and more — with no likelihood of turning back — if any version of ObamaCare is enacted.
We want everyone to have whatever medical attention is needed and offers hope. But “wishing won’t make it so.” Medicare has proved ObamaCare wouldn’t be “free.” The current legislative proposals could make millions of us economically sick and not medically well.
With our federal government already more than $12.1 trillion in debt, with trillion-dollar annual budget deficits in prospect, with taxes too high, with Social Security going broke, and with the national economy in recession as a result of many bad public and private economic mistakes, who can claim it would be wise to inflict another huge financial burden upon our people and our nation when there is no crisis to justify open-ended irresponsibility?
The liberal Democrat majorities in both houses of Congress are threatening a medical and economic revolution with lasting casualties in our way of life if they prevail.
“Who” will pay — and “how”? It’s better to look at honest answers now rather than face ruinous bills later.
