Remember 2 wars, and bin Laden

With Christmas just past and with Congress considering revolutionary legislative action, it may be easy for many of us to “forget” that the United States is still involved in two major wars. But we must not forget that many of our loved ones, friends and other Americans are involved in dangers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

And then there is the very much unanswered question about where terrorist Osama bin Laden is hiding, either in Afghanistan or perhaps somewhere across the border in Pakistan.

Did you notice the recent little news item about bin Laden’s daughter and some of her brothers?

She was reported to have taken refuge in the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Tehran, Iran, after eluding guards who had held five of her brothers under house arrest, for eight years. Two of Osama bin Laden’s sons reportedly have worked in al-Qaida, and one may have been killed in a U.S. air strike in Pakistan as he fled from Iran.

Some members of the large bin Laden family are not among the terrorists. But Osama bin Laden remains a threat, though holed up in — well, there are questions about exactly where. He remains one of the many big problems in the tangled, deadly mess in the Middle East, and in the war against terrorists throughout the world.
