Undercover operation nets arrest of man on enticement charge

A Dekalb County, Ala., man has been arrested and charged with sending sexually explicit text messages to a 14-year-old girl’s cell phone, officials said.

Dekalb sheriff’s office personnel, led by Deputy Scott Tarrant, conducted an undercover investigation and arrested David Ray McSpadden, of Rainsville, on Friday, said Stanna Guice, the sheriff’s office spokeswoman.

After the 14-year-old girl’s mother reported that her daughter was receiving sexually explicit text messages describing sexual acts, Deputy Tarrant took the girl’s cell phone and continued texting as though he was the girl, Ms. Guice said.

Through the text messages, arrangements were made for the suspect to come to the girl’s home after he got off work. The girl’s parents allowed officers to use their residence for the sting operation, she said. When the suspect arrived he was arrested without incident, she said.

Mr. McSpadden was charged Friday with enticing a child for immoral purposes and dissemination of material harmful to minors, she said.
