ST. ELMO: Painting the railroad overpass

Talks continue among St. Elmo neighbors concerning the possible repainting of the railroad overpass at the north end of the neighborhood. I have contacted Norfolk Southern and they are willing to have some painting done as long as they approve of the details in advance. A local painting company also has tentatively agreed to offer the labor for free, so the main things at this point are to secure funding for the purchase of the paint, decide whether or not the overpass should just be painted or whether something like “Welcome to St. Elmo” could also be included, and find out from the city the safety procedures needed to complete painting like that over a roadway. Ideally, all of this could come together by this summer, just in time for many of the 125th anniversary events for the community.
