The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency has recognized 15 excellence award winners, including Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise for its efforts in Jefferson Heights.
The winners included development projects and other programs.
Named were Palmetto 8, Oaks of Camden Street, Jefferson Heights, Madison Street Homes, Whisper Creek-Windstone, Greenbriar Cove, Mountain Market, Two North Shore, Terminal Brewhouse, Cat Clinic-Cherokee Boulevard, Calvary Chapel, Main Street Corridor, Renaissance Park, St. Elmo Park and Outdoor Chattanooga Bike Programs.
The projects and programs were selected by agency staff for quality of design and visual appeal, integration of good planning concepts and principles, and compatibility with neighboring land uses. In some cases they also help to facilitate alternative modes of transportation.
CNE’s project was recognized by the planning agency as an “outstanding example of urban infill housing.”
“CNE values its neighborhood revitalization mission and our important role in helping build stronger neighborhoods through the promotion and preservation of homeownership,” said David Johnson, CNE’s chief executive officer.
The Jefferson Heights revitalization project has contributed over $12 million in direct investment in the city, increasing annual property tax revenues on the four-acre tract from $1,494 in 2002 to over $165,000, according to CNE.
