Lewis ‘irritable’ while sitting

He is more than two months into the season, and defending state champion Campbell Lewis has yet to notch his first win.

That may come soon, but the Soddy-Daisy wrestler has been disgruntled, according to coach Steve Henry.

“It isn’t like I can be mad at the kid,” Henry said. “He got hurt. It wasn’t like he was out skateboarding. He got hurt, so to speak, in the line of duty.”

Coming off a 30-win season that included his first region and state championships, Lewis won the 125-pound freshman nationals in the spring. He was sporting a fast-track record heading into the national freestyle tournament in Fargo, N.D., but there he lost his last two matches and later discovered he had wrestled both with a severely torn labrum.

The shoulder reconstruction and initial pain pale in comparison to the agony of waiting and watching.
