KNOXVILLE – Reports have surfaced that Louisiana Tech’s Derek Dooley will be the next University of Tennessee football coach.
Several sources in Louisiana told the Times Free Press that Dooley has accepted an offer to coach the Volunteers, but several sources at UT have denied knowledge of a formal offer and maintain the interview process isn’t complete.
Dooley, the son of Georgia legend Vince Dooley and a protégé of Alabama’s Nick Saban, is also Louisiana Tech’s athletic director.
Louisiana Tech went 4-8 last season, but Dooley is well respected in coaching circles and has received ringing endorsements from Saban, Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and others.
