University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Shanara Hollinquest was named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week Tuesday.
The 6-foot forward earned the honor for the third time this season after her 19-point, 10-rebound performance in last Saturday’s 68-66 win over Western Carolina. Hollinquest hit two free throws with .9 seconds left to lift the Lady Mocs to their third 2-point win in their past four games.
Hollinquest, last season’s player of the year, leads the SoCon in scoring (18.4 ppg) and rebounding (9.1). She has 10 double-doubles this season and became UTC’s all-time leader in free throws made (425) last Saturday, breaking Regina Kirk’s 22-year-old record.
The SoCon-leading Lady Mocs play at Furman on Saturday.
