Complexions Contemporary Ballet, a New York-based dance troupe, will perform at the UTC Fine Arts Center on Tuesday as part of the Patten Performances series.
According to the organization’s Web site, complexionsdance.org, the company was founded in 1994 by former Alvin Ailey members Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson, hailed by The New York Times as “two of the greatest virtuosos ever to emerge from Ailey land.”
As artistic directors, they bring a “lifelong appreciation for the artistic and aesthetic appeal of the multicultural,” the cornerstone of their approach to “reinventing dance.”
The company’s foremost innovation, the Web site says, is that “dance should be about removing boundaries, not reinforcing them.” The dancers use a groundbreaking mix of methods, styles and cultures to accomplish this vision.
