Message to Obama: Leave us alone

I’m elated to see President Obama, and the liberals in charge, being exposed for what they are, authoritarians.

I’m also glad to witness President Obama failing, that’s right, failing, in his attempt to ram his statist/socialist vision down our collective throats.

Congratulations to the voters of Massachusetts for electing Scott Brown, a conservative, to the Senate. Yet, Obama’s arrogance express rolls on.

In an interview, after the Massachusetts election, he continued to blame former President Bush for everything and stated that the same forces that swept Scott Brown into the Senate swept him (Bush) into the presidency.

How delusional can you get! President Obama’s legacy is record unemployment, he inherited a $12 trillion Bush deficit, a worthless and pork-filled stimulus package, never ending attacks on the private sector, attacks on free speech, attacks on employers, foul and corrupt appointees, hidden taxation, constitutional rights granted to terrorists, and broken promises, which I label as lies.

Leave us alone! That is the message President Obama and the liberals are getting from all of us who make this country work. You are there to serve us, not the other way around.

Holidays marked by practical love

On behalf of The Salvation Army, I offer thanks to the most gracious people I’ve ever been blessed to know: the civic and business leaders, volunteers and donors who ensured that Christmas 2009 was a splendid outpouring of practical love that touched the lives of thousands locally.

Because of you, 12,339 of our less fortunate neighbors, including 5,762 “Angels,” received help, and $385,469 was donated at our Red Kettles.

Special thanks to: Mayor Ron Littlefield for his exceptional leadership in our Red Kettle Campaign;

Our dedicated Advisory Board members who gladly rang bells;

Our Women’s Auxiliary who distributed thousands of Angel Tree gifts;

The companies who set up Angel Trees and encouraged employees to take part;

The volunteers who served at Angel Tree locations, helped distribute Angels’ presents, delivered gifts to shut-ins and prisoners and served 300 Christmas Eve meals;

The individuals, families, churches, civic organizations and businesses who volunteered to ring bells in all kinds of weather throughout Chattanooga, Cleveland and North Georgia;

And, to those thousands of friends who adopted Angels and those who gave sacrificially at the Red Kettles. Thank you!

God bless you all.

Author presents surprise editorial

I want to commend the editor for an act of consistency and acclaim his wise words in the lead editorial of Jan. 23. I refer to the one regarding the current Supreme Court’s latest assertion of judicial activism, striking down regulation of political contributions by corporations and labor unions.

Fingers poised above computer keys, I was prepared to dash off a quick letter of rebuke for what I assumed would be a defense of the decision.

Instead I must, in fairness, write and endorse the editorial, surprising as it was.

True, there were 16 egregious examples of words or phrases in unnecessary and jarring quotation marks, and the editor failed to mention his own staunch support for every one of the “conservatives” (as he calls these activists) when they were nominated by “conservatives” like presidents Reagan and the two Bushes.

Those failings aside, the editorial requires Chattanoogans, conservative, liberal, radical, libertarian, to thank its author. I hastily do so: thanks — with no quotation marks!

Why different for giving, taking life?

During the Sanctity of Human Life week, I learned a few interesting facts. According to Planned Parenthood, Tennessee requires at least one parent’s consent before an abortion can take place for a minor. However, a judge can excuse the minor from this requirement. There are many states that do not require parental involvement for a minor to have an abortion.

Blood Assurance is in need of donations, but blood donors under age 17 must have parental consent. This may be due in part to medical reasons. So in order to “Give Blood, Give Life” there must be parental consent for minors. However, in order to take away and destroy essentially two lives (mother and baby), parents do not “need” to be notified. Is there a medical reason for this?

Is the abortion issue all about a woman’s right? Do we think this kind of cover-up is fooling our own selves and our posterity? Isn’t the issue really about relieving our conscience to say it is OK to murder an innocent, unborn baby? Think of the message we are sending to this present and future generation.

Because every child matters.

U.S. leaders defy Constitution

I am reminded of Philip Nolan (“Man Without a Country”) and his comment “I wish that I may never hear of the United States again,” it was taken out of context. He was doomed to live his life never to hear those words again.

So try this one, “I wish that I may never hear of the Constitution again.”

At least I realize how important that document is and how so nearly perfect it is, but unfortunately our president and members of Congress do not.

Disagree? Why are they always circumventing the words of the 10th Amendment?

It’s been written of on these pages, at least the Times Free Press understands its true meaning.

Those aforementioned members of Congress are always disregarding that amendment by usurping the power of the states and/or the people.

The president plays by a totally different set of rules than the voters. Time for “vote the bums out,” which means all liberals/socialists.
